How to play

  1. Start any game you like — board game, cards, or a made-up backyard game.
  2. Tap Add a rule whenever you want fresh chaos; a new house rule appears and joins the active list.
  3. Keep playing under every active rule until the group agrees to drop one, then tap Retire next to it.
  4. Tap Reset all to clear every active rule and start a brand new game from scratch.

Silly Rule Randomizer bolts a fresh layer of chaos onto any existing game — board games, card games, or made-up backyard games all work. Tap Add a rule and one house rule appears from a deck of twenty-five, things like left hand only, talk like a pirate, or no smiling allowed, and it stays in effect for the rest of the game unless someone retires it. Every rule you've added stays visible in a running history list below the main card, numbered in the order they arrived, so nobody forgets a rule is still active three rounds later — tap Retire next to any rule once the group agrees to drop it. The deck won't repeat a rule until every one of the twenty-five has been drawn once, then it reshuffles for a second lap. Reset all clears everything and starts a brand new game.

Frequently asked questions

Do new rules replace old ones or stack up?
They stack. Every rule you add stays active and visible in the history list until you specifically tap Retire on it, so a game can end up with several silly rules running at once.
Will we see the same rule twice in one game?
Not until every rule in the twenty-five-rule deck has been drawn once. After a full pass through the deck, it reshuffles automatically so you can keep adding rules indefinitely.
What happens when I tap Reset all?
It clears every active and retired rule from the history list and reshuffles the deck, giving you a completely fresh start for a new game with no leftover rules.
