How to play
- Set how high to count from — the default is 20, and any number from 1 to 200 works.
- Tap Start Counting once the seeker's eyes are shut; the countdown ticks down by exactly one number per second.
- Turn off Speak Numbers Aloud if you'd rather count silently on screen only.
- Tap Fullscreen to blow the digits up for easy reading from across the room or yard, and Cancel if you need to stop the countdown early.
Hide & Seek Counter keeps the seeker honest by taking the counting out of their hands entirely. Set how high to count from (anywhere from 1 to 200), tap Start Counting, and giant tabular digits tick down once per second while your browser's built-in voice speaks each number aloud — no rushing through the numbers under your breath, no starting the search early. When the countdown reaches zero the screen flashes green and speaks a triumphant "Ready or not, here I come!" so everyone knows the seeking has officially begun. A Fullscreen button blows the digits up big enough to read from across the yard, and if a browser has no built-in voice available, the numbers still count down clearly on screen at the same steady pace, no functionality lost.
Frequently asked questions
- Can the seeker count faster than the timer to cheat?
- No — the countdown is driven by a steady one-second timer, not by taps, so the pace can't be sped up; each number displays and (if enabled) is spoken exactly once per second all the way down to zero.
- What happens if my browser or device doesn't support spoken numbers?
- The countdown still runs at the same steady one-per-second pace and the giant digits still update normally — only the spoken voice is skipped, and a small note explains that numbers will show on screen only.
- What happens when the count reaches zero?
- The digit turns green, the screen displays and speaks 'Ready or not, here I come!', and a short celebratory sound plays, clearly signaling that seeking can begin.
