How to play

  1. Choose a week from the preset progression, or switch to the Custom tab to set your own run/walk/repeats.
  2. Set an optional warmup and cooldown walk length in seconds.
  3. Tap Start to go full screen — the session begins with a start cue and the first segment.
  4. Follow the color-coded run and walk countdowns; a switch cue and full fanfare mark every transition and the finish.

The run/walk method builds running endurance by alternating short runs with recovery walks, gradually shifting the balance toward more running over several weeks. Pick a week from the built-in 9-week progression — starting at 8 rounds of a 60-second run and 90-second walk, ending at a continuous 30-minute run — or switch to Custom and set your own run seconds, walk seconds, and repeat count. Add an optional warmup and cooldown walk to bracket the session, then tap Start. The screen fills full screen with a big color-coded countdown (teal for run, amber for walk), a progress bar for the whole session, and a distinct sound cue at every switch so you never have to check your watch mid-stride.

Frequently asked questions

What is the run/walk interval method?
It's a beginner-friendly way to build running endurance by alternating short bursts of running with walking recovery, gradually increasing the run portions week over week until you can run continuously — the classic 9-week progression in this tool runs from 60-second run intervals up to a full 30-minute continuous run.
How is this different from the Running Pace Calculator?
The Running Pace Calculator works out pace, time, or distance from numbers you type in before or after a run. This tool is a live session runner: it counts down each run and walk segment in real time with full-screen color states and cues, so you follow it hands-free during the actual workout instead of calculating anything.
Can I build my own run/walk plan instead of using a preset week?
Yes. Switch to the Custom tab and set your own run seconds, walk seconds, and number of repeats — the same warmup, cooldown, cues, and progress bar apply exactly as they do to the built-in weekly presets.
