How to play

  1. Type your performance level names, one per line, from lowest to highest.
  2. Type each criterion on its own line, with a description per level separated by the | character.
  3. Tap Build Rubric to see it laid out as a clean table anyone can read.
  4. Tap a level's column heading to highlight it for the class, or tap Print for a paper copy.

Type your performance levels once, such as Beginning through Advanced, then list each criterion on its own line with a description for every level separated by a bar character. Build Rubric turns that plain text into a clean, properly aligned table with your criteria down the side and levels across the top, readable from the front of the room or up close at a desk. Tap any level's column heading to highlight it across every row, which is useful for pointing the whole class at exactly which target they're aiming for on an assignment, and tapping the same column again clears the highlight. When you're ready to hand out paper copies, Print produces a clean version of just the table with none of the setup controls included. Edit Rubric takes you back to your original text any time you need to adjust wording or add a criterion.

Frequently asked questions

What happens if a criterion row has fewer descriptions than I have levels?
Any missing cells for that row are simply left blank in the table rather than causing an error, so you can fill in a description later without rebuilding the whole rubric.
Can I highlight more than one level column at the same time?
No, only one column highlights at a time — tapping a new column switches the highlight to it, and tapping the currently highlighted column again clears it entirely.
Does the Print button print my setup text along with the table?
No. Print only outputs the finished rubric table itself; the text boxes and buttons used to build it are hidden automatically so you get a clean printed page.
