How to play

  1. Use ↺/↻ buttons (or left/right arrow keys) to rotate your ship.
  2. Hold THRUST (or up arrow) to accelerate in the direction you face.
  3. Press FIRE or Space to shoot bullets at asteroids.
  4. Large asteroids split into two smaller ones when hit.
  5. You flash briefly after losing a life — use that invincibility wisely.

Rotate, thrust, and fire to blast asteroids. Big rocks split into smaller ones. Survive and score big!

How it works

Asteroid Blaster is a browser-based reimagining of the classic Asteroids arcade game. You pilot a ship floating in space and must destroy all asteroids on screen before they collide with you. Large asteroids break into smaller, faster fragments when hit, so clearing the screen requires sustained attention.

Use the left and right arrow keys to rotate your ship, the up arrow to thrust forward, and the spacebar to fire. Your ship drifts with inertia — thrust briefly and let momentum carry you, braking with a reverse thrust burst to reposition.

The game loops: after clearing all asteroids, a new wave spawns with more and faster rocks. Survival time and score are tracked for the session.

Worked example

Clear a wave without getting hit

  1. Start by shooting the largest asteroid nearest your ship.
  2. Immediately thrust away from the fragments that break off.
  3. Target medium fragments next before they multiply further.
  4. Rotate to track fast-moving small fragments and fire short bursts.
  5. Once all fragments are gone, reposition to the center before the next wave spawns.

Wave cleared without collision; score increases and a harder wave begins.

Common mistakes to avoid

  • Shooting large asteroids in the center of the screen where fragments spread in all directions — drive them toward an edge first.
  • Thrusting too aggressively and losing control of your position; brief thrust pulses give much better maneuverability.
  • Forgetting that destroyed asteroids leave fragments — clearing one large rock immediately creates more threats.

Key terms

Inertia
Your ship continues moving in its current direction after you stop thrusting; you must apply thrust in the opposite direction to slow down.
Fragment
A smaller, faster piece of asteroid produced when a large rock is shot; each large asteroid produces 2-3 medium fragments, each of which produces small fragments.

Frequently asked questions

How do I fire?
Press Space on keyboard or tap the FIRE button on mobile.
What happens when I shoot a big rock?
It splits into two smaller, faster rocks. Destroy all fragments to clear the wave.
