How to play

  1. Enter how many minutes and seconds the countdown should run.
  2. Optionally turn off Show Numbers so only the falling sand communicates time left.
  3. Tap Start and watch the sand drain from the top chamber into the bottom one.
  4. When the last grain falls, a soft chime plays and a finished message appears.

Set minutes and seconds and an animated hourglass starts draining, with sand visibly falling from the top chamber to the bottom one as time passes. For pre-readers who can't yet parse a digital countdown, turn off the numbers entirely and let the shrinking and growing sand piles tell the whole story — less sand up top means less time left, no reading required. A soft chime plays when the last grain falls, and a calm on-screen message confirms time is up. It works for transitions, timed centers, quiet reading, or any moment where you want young children to grasp "how much longer" without asking. Runs entirely in the browser, no login, nothing saved.

Frequently asked questions

Why would I turn off the numbers?
Pre-readers and very young children often can't parse a digital countdown yet, so hiding the numbers lets the visual sand level alone communicate how much time remains, which keeps the timer meaningful for kids who can't read numbers.
Can I use it for very short or very long waits?
Yes, any combination of minutes and seconds works from a single second up to sixty minutes, and the sand drains at a speed that always matches your chosen duration.
Does the timer make noise the whole time?
No, it stays silent while the sand falls and only plays a gentle chime at the very end; the sound toggle lets you turn that final chime off too if you want a fully silent countdown.
