Click Speed Test
Test how many times you can click per second. Choose 5 or 10 seconds. Compete for your best CPS.
How to play
- Choose your test duration: 5 seconds or 10 seconds.
- Click the blue button to start — clicking also counts during the timer.
- Click as fast as possible until the timer runs out.
- Your total clicks and CPS (clicks per second) are shown at the end.
- Switch duration and retry to compare your 5 s vs 10 s CPS.
How fast can you click? Choose a 5 or 10 second window, then click the button as many times as possible. Your clicks-per-second (CPS) score is displayed at the end.
How it works
The Click Speed Test measures how many times you can click a mouse button in a fixed time window, either 5 or 10 seconds. Your result is expressed as clicks per second (CPS). The test records each click during the active window and displays your total count and CPS rate when time expires.
CPS is relevant to gaming genres such as Minecraft PvP where high click rates provide an advantage, and to any workflow where repeated clicking is required. Average CPS for a casual user is around 5 to 8. Practiced clickers using techniques like jitter clicking or butterfly clicking can reach 12 to 16 CPS or higher.
Jitter clicking involves tensing the forearm muscles to induce rapid involuntary vibration, generating fast clicks without deliberate finger movement. Butterfly clicking uses two fingers alternating rapidly on a single button. Both techniques require practice and can cause muscle strain if overused.
Use the 5-second test for a quick burst measurement and the 10-second test for a better average that reflects sustained clicking endurance.
Worked example
Comparing CPS across two clicking techniques
- Run a 5-second test clicking normally with your index finger and note your CPS.
- Rest for 30 seconds to let your hand recover.
- Run another 5-second test using two fingers alternating on the button and note the CPS.
- Compare both scores.
- Practice the higher-scoring technique until it feels natural before re-testing.
A direct CPS comparison showing which technique suits your hand better.
Common mistakes to avoid
- Using the full hand to lift and slam the mouse button instead of a controlled finger motion, which fatigues the hand quickly and reduces sustained CPS.
- Not resting between attempts, causing muscle fatigue to accumulate and scores to drop progressively.
- Counting only the 5-second score on a tired hand from a previous attempt and believing it represents maximum potential.
Key terms
- CPS (clicks per second)
- The number of mouse button clicks registered per second, calculated by dividing total clicks by elapsed time.
- Jitter clicking
- A technique where forearm muscle tension causes rapid involuntary vibrations, generating a high click rate without deliberate finger movement.
- Butterfly clicking
- A technique using two fingers placed on one mouse button that alternate tapping to roughly double effective click rate.
Frequently asked questions
- What is a good CPS score?
- Average players click 5–8 CPS. Skilled gamers often reach 10–14 CPS. World record butterfly-clicking speeds exceed 20 CPS.
- What is butterfly clicking?
- Butterfly clicking is a technique where you alternate two fingers on one mouse button very rapidly. Some games ban it as it can exceed normal clicking rates significantly.
