How it works
The Dice Roller simulates rolling one or more dice, each with any number of sides you specify. Enter the number of sides (e.g., 6 for a standard die, 20 for a D20) and the number of dice, then click Roll to see all individual results plus the total.
Standard tabletop role-playing games use polyhedral dice: D4, D6, D8, D10, D12, and D20. This tool supports all of them and any custom die shape you need, such as a D3, D100, or D7. Board games, party games, and probability exercises can all be simulated here without physical dice.
Each die roll is independently random. The individual values are shown alongside the sum so you can apply any game-specific rules, such as dropping the lowest roll or counting successes above a threshold.

Worked example
Roll 4D6 and drop the lowest for a D&D character stat
- Set Sides to 6.
- Set Number of dice to 4.
- Click Roll and note all four individual results.
- Drop the lowest individual value.
- Sum the remaining three numbers to get the stat.
Rolls: 5, 3, 6, 4 — drop the 3, sum = 15.
Common mistakes to avoid
- Setting number of sides to 0 or 1 — a die needs at least 2 sides to produce meaningful random results.
- Forgetting to note individual roll values before looking at the total when a game rule requires dropping a die.
- Using the total directly when a game requires counting successes (individual dice above a threshold) rather than summing values.
