Tank Duel
Set your angle and power to lob shells at the enemy tank across rolling terrain. Outgun the AI!
How to play
- Use the Angle +/- controls (or left/right arrows) to tilt your cannon.
- Use the Power +/- controls (or up/down arrows) to set shot strength.
- Press FIRE or Space to lob a shell in an arc across the terrain.
- Land a shell on the enemy tank to score; the AI then fires back at you.
- The terrain regenerates after each hit — keep score and outduel the AI.
Adjust your cannon angle and shot power, then FIRE to arc a shell across the terrain at the enemy tank. The AI fires back between your turns — land more direct hits to win the duel.
How it works
Tank Duel is a turn-based artillery game. You and an AI opponent take turns firing shells at each other across procedurally generated hilly terrain. Before each shot you set two values -- the barrel angle (trajectory direction) and the power (how far the shell travels). Wind may also affect the shell's path and is shown on screen before each turn.
The goal is to lob a shell that lands on or near the enemy tank. A direct hit deals maximum damage; a near miss deals splash damage depending on the game's rules. The player who depletes the opponent's health first wins.
Tank Duel rewards geometry intuition. With practice you learn to estimate the angle and power combination needed for a given horizontal distance, and to compensate for terrain height differences and wind direction.
Worked example
Landing a first-shot hit
- Observe the distance to the enemy tank and whether it is higher or lower than your position.
- Check the wind speed and direction indicator.
- Set an initial angle of about 45 degrees as a baseline for maximum range.
- Adjust power upward for greater distance or if firing uphill.
- If wind blows toward the enemy, reduce angle slightly; if against, increase power or angle.
A first-shot hit or near-miss that gives useful information for your second shot.
Common mistakes to avoid
- Ignoring wind and using the same angle and power as the previous shot when wind direction changes.
- Setting maximum power on the first shot, overshooting, and not adjusting enough on the follow-up.
- Forgetting that firing uphill requires more power and a lower angle compared to firing on flat ground.
Key terms
- Angle
- The elevation of the barrel in degrees; higher angles produce looping, shorter-range arcs; lower angles shoot flatter and farther.
- Power
- The propulsion force behind the shell, controlling how far it travels.
- Wind
- A horizontal force applied to the shell in flight; positive wind blows right, negative blows left.
Frequently asked questions
- How do I aim?
- Use the Angle and Power +/- buttons (or arrow keys) to set your shot, then press FIRE or Space.
- Does the AI adapt?
- The AI estimates a firing solution toward your tank with some random spread, so it gets the occasional direct hit.
