Net floor area (m²) = length × width
Purchase area (m²) = length × width × (1 + waste % ÷ 100)
Total cost ($) = purchase area × (material cost + installation cost) per m²

How it works
This calculator estimates the full cost of a flooring project by multiplying the purchase area (which includes a waste allowance for cuts and offcuts) by the combined per-square-metre rate of materials and installation labour.
The displayed floor area is the net room area without waste; the cost, however, is based on the inflated purchase area so the budget reflects what you actually pay for. Costs can vary with floor complexity, subfloor preparation needs, and regional labour rates.
Worked example
- Room: 5 m × 4 m. Material: $30/m². Installation: $15/m². Waste: 10%.
- Net floor area = 5 × 4 = 20 m².
- Purchase area = 20 × 1.10 = 22 m².
- Combined rate = $30 + $15 = $45/m².
- Total cost = 22 × $45 = $990.
