Generate a QR code from any text or URL and download it as a PNG. Free, instant, in your browser.

How it works

This tool generates a QR code image from any text or URL you provide, rendering it as a square matrix barcode that any modern smartphone camera can scan. QR codes encode data using a pattern of black and white squares, with built-in error correction that allows them to be read even if partially damaged or obscured.

The QR code is generated entirely in your browser using a JavaScript library — your input text is not sent to any server. You can download the result as a PNG image at a resolution suitable for printing or digital use. The tool supports any Unicode text, including URLs, Wi-Fi credentials, contact cards (vCard), and plain messages.

Use this to create scannable links for print materials, share a URL without typing it, or encode short text for easy transfer between devices.

Worked example

Create a QR code for a website URL to use on a flyer

  1. Paste or type the URL into the input field (e.g., 'https://example.com').
  2. The QR code generates instantly in the preview area.
  3. Click 'Download PNG' to save the image.
  4. Insert the PNG into your design tool or print it directly.

A scannable QR code PNG is saved to your device. Anyone who scans it with a phone camera is taken directly to the specified URL.

Common mistakes to avoid

  • Encoding a URL without the 'https://' prefix — some phone cameras will treat it as plain text rather than a clickable link.
  • Printing the QR code too small — codes become difficult to scan below roughly 2 cm x 2 cm in print. Test scanning before finalizing a print run.
  • Including spaces or line breaks accidentally at the start or end of the input — these are encoded into the QR and can cause unexpected results when scanned.

Key terms

QR Code
Quick Response code — a 2D barcode that encodes data as a grid of black and white squares, readable by smartphone cameras and dedicated scanners.
Error correction level
A QR code property that determines how much of the code can be damaged or covered while still being readable. Higher levels allow more damage but produce a denser code.
vCard
A standard text format for contact information that can be encoded in a QR code, allowing someone to add a contact to their phone by scanning.

Frequently asked questions

Do these QR codes expire?
No — they encode your text directly and never expire.
