How to use this tool

  1. Enter price 1, quantity 1, price 2 and quantity 2 in the fields above.
  2. Results update instantly as you type — or click Calculate.
  3. Read your savings per unit (cheaper vs pricier) and the full breakdown beneath it.

Formula

Unit Price = Price / Quantity; Savings = |Unit Price 1 - Unit Price 2|

How it works

Divide each product's price by its quantity to get the unit price. Compare the two unit prices; the lower one is the better deal. The savings shows the difference per unit.

Worked example

$3.99 for 16 oz vs $5.49 for 24 oz

  1. Unit price 1: 3.99 / 16 = $0.2494 per oz
  2. Unit price 2: 5.49 / 24 = $0.2288 per oz
  3. Option 2 is cheaper by $0.0206 per oz

Common mistakes to avoid

  • Comparing products with different units of measure (ounces vs grams) without converting first, making the comparison meaningless.
  • Entering the number of packages rather than total units within each package, understating the per-unit price of multi-pack items.
  • Ignoring quality differences; lowest unit price does not always represent best value if products differ in concentration or quality.
