This is an estimate, not legal advice. Laws vary by jurisdiction and individual circumstances. Consult a qualified attorney before making any legal decisions.
Track how many days remain until your scheduled court date or legal hearing. Missing a court appearance can result in serious legal consequences including default judgment or contempt of court.
Formula
Days until court = round((court date − reference date) ÷ 86,400,000 ms)
Status: Past if days < 0 | Today if days = 0 | This week if 1–7 days | Upcoming if > 7 days
How it works
The calculator subtracts the reference date from the court date in milliseconds and divides by 86,400,000 (the number of milliseconds in one calendar day), rounding to the nearest whole day. A simple status label then classifies the result as Past, Today, This week, or Upcoming. The tool counts calendar days only and does not distinguish weekends, court holidays, or jurisdiction-specific rules for counting legal deadlines.
Worked example
Worked example
- Court date: 2024-04-01; Reference date: 2024-03-01
- Difference = April 1 − March 1 = 31 calendar days
- 31 > 7, so status = Upcoming
31 days until court; status: Upcoming.

Frequently asked questions
- What happens if I miss my court date?
- Missing a court appearance can lead to a default judgment against you, a bench warrant for your arrest (in criminal matters), contempt of court findings, or dismissal of your case. Contact your attorney immediately if you may miss a hearing.
- Can court dates be rescheduled?
- Yes. You can request a continuance (postponement), but the court is not required to grant it. Requests must typically be filed well in advance and show good cause.
- Are weekends and holidays counted?
- This calculator counts calendar days. Procedural rules may require filing deadlines that fall on a weekend or holiday to be moved to the next business day — check applicable court rules.
