Formula

Monthly = Annual ÷ 12

Biweekly = Annual ÷ 26

Weekly = Annual ÷ 52

Daily = Annual ÷ (52 × Days/Week)

Hourly = Daily ÷ 8

How it works

This converter applies standard calendar divisors: 12 months, 26 biweekly periods, and 52 weeks per year. The daily and hourly rates assume 8 working hours per day. All figures are gross (before tax) equivalents of the stated annual salary.

Worked example

$60,000 annual salary broken into pay periods

  1. Monthly = $60,000 ÷ 12 = $5,000.00
  2. Biweekly = $60,000 ÷ 26 ≈ $2,307.69
  3. Weekly = $60,000 ÷ 52 ≈ $1,153.85
  4. Daily = $60,000 ÷ (52 × 5) ≈ $230.77
  5. Hourly = $230.77 ÷ 8 ≈ $28.85

A $60,000 annual salary equals $5,000/month, $2,307.69 biweekly, $1,153.85/week, $230.77/day, and $28.85/hour.

Common mistakes to avoid

  • Confusing monthly pay (Annual / 12) with biweekly pay — months and biweekly periods are different; there are 26 biweekly periods but only 12 months.
  • Treating the daily figure as if every month has the same number of working days, when working-day counts vary by month.
  • Using the monthly gross figure for budgeting without subtracting taxes, retirement contributions, and benefits premiums.

Key terms

Biweekly pay period
A pay schedule where employees are paid every two weeks, resulting in 26 paychecks per year.
Semimonthly vs biweekly
Semimonthly = 24 pay periods/year (twice per month); biweekly = 26 pay periods/year (every two weeks).
Gross salary
Pre-tax earnings; the net (take-home) amount will be lower after income tax and benefit deductions.

Frequently asked questions

Why is my biweekly paycheck not exactly half of my monthly pay?
Monthly pay = Annual / 12, but biweekly pay = Annual / 26. These produce different numbers because 26 biweekly periods do not map neatly onto 12 months.
Two months a year I receive three paychecks instead of two. How does that work?
With 26 biweekly paychecks spread over 12 months, two months each year contain three pay dates. Your annual total is unchanged; the money just arrives in a different pattern.
Is the monthly figure gross or net?
Gross. The calculator does not deduct taxes. Your take-home will be lower depending on your tax bracket and deductions.
